1. LEADERSHIP CHANGES
We offer a huge todah rabbah to Sara Dauber, who is leaving her position as treasurer. Sara has been managing Minyan finances since our inception over three years ago. We are glad she will remain an active lay member of the community.
We welcome Jamie Bornstein to the gabbai group. Jamie will predominantly assume the responsibilities of the treasurer in addition to the general responsibilities as a gabbai. Feel free to contact him at jamie@wsminyan.org.
2. COMMUNITY SHABBATON
The date for our Shabbaton has been postponed from May 9-10. Check back for more info soon, but try to hold July 4th weekend for this special event. Contact Carrie Bornstein if you have any questions or would like to get involved in the planning.
3. INTERESTED IN SOCIAL EVENTS?
One of the most important elements for the Minyan is to be a welcoming and comfortable community to everyone who joins us. Becky Cole Lurie will be working with a group of people to determine ways to make our community a place where every new person and existing member feels welcome. If you have specific ideas you would like to share with this group as they get started, please email Becky directly at becky@wsminyan.org. And, if you have an interest in helping to work on this team, please email Becky as well.
4. OPERATIONS TEAM
We are looking to begin a WSM Operations Team. These volunteers will be responsible for Minyan logistics, such as moving High Holiday paraphernalia, buying and setting up kiddush foods, and helping with any other physical Minyan operations. This is a great way to get involved in the non-shul side of the Minyan! If you are interested in all or some of these tasks, please contact Natan Orenstein.
5. THE BULLETIN IS NOW A WIKI!
Our community bulletin webpage has moved to a wiki, a publicly editable site. You can access it at wsminyan.wikispaces.com, or from the link to the left. If you'd like to add, edit, or delete anything, you will need to create an account and join the wiki. However, you DO NOT need an account to view any pages on the communIKI. Please email Adam Lurie at wiki@wsminyan.org with any questions.
6. CHARLES RIVER BEIT MIDRASH
The Charles River Beit Midrash brings together the Brookline and Cambridge communities for weekly guided and independent learning of Jewish texts. We are excited to announce that starting February 5, the Washington Square Minyan will be sponsoring the Beit Midrash a few times a year. If you are interesting in teaching in the Beit Midrash, or in becoming involved with coordinating this new partnership, please contact Yehuda Kurtzer.
7. KIDDUSH SPONSORSHIP
Kiddush sponsorship is a lovely way to mark a special event, a milestone, or to honor someone. Best of all, we do all the kiddush planning work for you! If you'd like to sponsor a kiddush, please contact Sara Dauber.
8. JOIN THE WSM FACEBOOK GROUP
If you use Facebook, make sure to join the Washington Square Minyan Facebook group! Connect with your WSM friends, and be in the know about Minyan events.
