Fulfill the important mitzvah of matanot la'evyonim (gifts to those in need) with Washington Square Minyan and Yad Chessed!
As in years past, you can fulfill the important Purim mitzvah of matanot la’evyonim by donating to Yad Chessed through Washington Square Minyan! Yad Chessed is an organization that provides emergency financial assistance to local Jews in need.
Last year, $143,500 was distributed in food certificates to over 700 families and Washington Square Minyan contributed almost $9,000! Of the 60+ congregations, day schools and minyanim that donated, Washington Square Minyan ranked number 4! Can we reach these heights of mitzvah again? Please help by donating!

Yad Chessed has an arrangement with several local stores. Needy Jewish families in our area will receive supermarket certificates whose value depends on how much is collected from donors. The stores will be called at noon on Purim to tell them the value of the certificates, so our tzedakah is truly matanot la’evyonim on Purim day.
Rambam in his Mishna Torah, Laws of the Megillah (2:17) says
"There is no greater and more glorious simchah [on Purim] than to give joy to the hearts of the poor..."
